SEATTLE, July 18, 2025 – A federal court today blocked a new Washington state law that would have forced Catholic priests to face jail time unless they broke the sacred seal of confession.

SEATTLE, June 6, 2025 – The Catholic bishops of Washington asked a federal court late yesterday to block a new state law that forces priests to choose between breaking the sacred seal of confession or facing jail time before it takes effect on July 27.
