Report unethical behavior

The Archdiocese of Seattle has a longstanding commitment to transparency, accountability and assistance to people sexually abused by clergy or by anyone working on behalf of the Church.

We also expect everyone to work within established archdiocesan policies and procedures set forth in Many Gifts, One Spirit.

Please report any suspicion of abuse or individuals who are violating policies or are involved in unethical conduct.

To report any suspicion of abuse by any Church personnel, please contact local law enforcement. In addition, anyone who has knowledge of sexual abuse or misconduct by a member of the clergy, an employee or volunteer of the Archdiocese of Seattle should call the Victim Assistance Helpline at

The Catholic Bishop Abuse Reporting Service (CBAR) has been established to receive reports of sexual abuse and related misconduct by bishops, and to relay those reports to proper Church authorities for investigation. Where a report includes a crime, such as the sexual abuse of a minor, it will also be reported to civil authorities.

EthicsPoint is an independent third-party company that provides a confidential hotline so anyone can report concerns about suspected financial or human resources misconduct while remaining anonymous.

Why do we need a system like EthicsPoint?

Does the archdiocese really want me to report?

We certainly do. The archdiocese chooses to promote ethical behavior. In fact, we need you to report because you may have initial knowledge of an activity that may be cause for concern. All unethical conduct, at any level, ultimately hurts the archdiocese and all employees, volunteers and parishioners, including you. Your reporting can help identify issues that can improve the archdiocese.

If I see a violation, shouldn't I just tell parish staff?

When you observe behavior you believe violates our code of conduct, we expect you to report it. Ideally, employees should bring concerns to their direct manager, or another leadership member at the parish, school or archdiocesan office. Volunteers or parishioners should bring concerns to local leadership teams. However, we recognize there may be circumstances when you are not comfortable reporting that way. That's why we partnered with EthicsPoint. We would rather you report anonymously than keep the information to yourself.

Who sees the EthicsPoint reports?

Reports are entered directly on the EthicsPoint secure server to prevent any possible breach in security. EthicsPoint makes these reports available only to specific individuals within the archdiocese who are charged with evaluating the report, based on the type of violation and location of the incident. Each of these report recipients is trained to keep these reports in the utmost confidence.
