About Jesson Mata:
Jesson Mata is a former seminarian for the Dominican Order of the Western Province. With the monastic community, he prayed the Divine Office daily and studied Dominican spirituality with a personal interest in ancient rites, particularly the Dominican Rite. Through his study and contemplation of the older rites, he developed a deeper love for the Novus Ordo – the present iteration of the Mass as well as the Divine Office (Liturgy of the Hours). He believes that it’s critical to study our past in order to appreciate the present and develop a future in keeping with the traditions of the Church – Ever Ancient Ever New.
After seminary, Jesson worked for over a decade in liturgy and music throughout Western United States in various parishes and an archdiocesan office. He has experienced the myriad of expressions of the Mass in communities of faith throughout the region. As he grew in experience and knowledge, he came to a resolution that the beauty of the Mass is what sparks the creative imagination – through the external manifestation of beauty, the faithful are able to delve into the internal life of God, leading them to His Truth, Goodness, and Beauty.
He hopes this mini-retreat will awaken and enliven the faith that God planted in the hearts of the faithful.
