All-day Veneration of the Hibaku Maria
All are welcome from 9 am to 8 pm to venerate the Hibaku Maria statue, which is the top portion of a statue of Mary that survived the nuclear bombing of Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki.
Usually residing in the rebuilt Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki, the Hibaku Maria statue is travelling with the Japanese delegation archbishops to the United States as part of their Pilgrimage of Peace. The statue is a symbol of hope and resilience.
All are welcome to join the full day of Pilgrimage of Peace events in St. James Cathedral:
- 12:10 pm Mass with the Japanese Peace Delegation
- All-day (9 am to 8 pm) Veneration of the Hibaku Maria
- 6:30 pm Interfaith Prayer Service for Peace
About the Pilgrimage of Peace:
Seattle is the last stop for the Japanese delegation, who have been on a two-week Pilgrimage of Peace to the United States, including New York City, Sante Fe and Las Vegas. They are part of the Partnership for a World Without Nuclear Weapons (PWNW), a collaboration of the dioceses of Santa Fe, Seattle, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki and many supporters around the world.
