An evening with Dr. James Nolan and Archbishop Paul D. Etienne

Join us for a free, informative and rich discussion about nuclear war and peace with author and professor, Dr. James Nolan, who will share insights about the impacts of nuclear war drawing upon his book Atomic Doctors – and Archbishop Etienne who will share his personal experience confronting nuclear devastation during his pilgrimage of peace to Japan, which led to the formation of the Partnership for a World Without Nuclear Weapons. There will be light hors d’oeuvres, wine/beer, and water/tea.

Dr. James Nolan biography

James L. Nolan, Jr. is the Washington Gladden 1859 Professor of Sociology at Williams College. He is the author and editor of a number of books, including Atomic Doctors: Conscience and Complicity at the Dawn of the Nuclear Age (Harvard University Press, 2020), described in the New York Times as a “striking study” and a “powerful and readable book”; and What They Saw in America: Alexis de Tocqueville, Max Weber, G.K. Chesterton, and Sayyid Qutb (Cambridge University Press, 2016). He is currently working on a book about Nagasaki. He is the recipient of several grants and awards including a Fulbright scholarship and two National Endowment for the Humanities fellowships. He has held visiting fellowships at Oxford University, Loughborough University, the University of Notre Dame, CUA, and Nagasaki Junshin Catholic University.
