Civil Rights Pilgrimage

ovc, christifideles

Who?
Invited representatives of Catholic communities and ministries in the Archdiocese of Seattle to experience an important intersection of faith and social justice.

Why?
Our hope is that after the Civil Rights Pilgrimage, representatives will return to their communities to further conversations and create activities within our faith context that can be utilized by your peers. In short, how do we engage your peers in this important conversation?

What is immersive-based learning?
This experiential learning experience is more than just gaining information through lectures or textbooks. Also, this is not a modern-day tourist/pilgrimage where people experience holy sites with busloads of people. Rather, the small size of our group allows for impactful encounters and intimate group sharing as the central part of the overall learning experience. By being in the heart of the Civil Rights Movement in the Deep South, this context allows participants to experience racial injustices as well as the movements toward justice.

Key Dates:
The program includes two instruction courses prior to the pilgrimage trip and one follow-up course after returning:

  • Courses: 5/29 and 6/5: 6:00 – 8:30pm (online)

  • Follow-up: 7/10: 6:00 – 8:30pm (online)
